GLOBAL BUSINESSWOMAN, INNOVATIVE MAGAZINE AND ACTOR/ACTIVIST TO BE HONORED AT 2011 MEN STOPPING VIOLENCE ANNUAL AWARDS DINNER OCT. 15

ATLANTA, Sept. 6, 2011 – Men Stopping Violence will honor activists from all walks of life at its annual awards dinner on Oct. 15 at the Loews Hotel in Midtown Atlanta.

The awards dinner, the primary annual fundraiser for Men Stopping Violence, recognizes individuals or groups who have dedicated time and resources to seeking safety and justice for women.

Ann Stallard, global leader and businesswoman, will receive The Kathleen Carlin Justice Seekers Award, named for the founding executive director of Men Stopping Violence. The online magazine The Good Men Project will accept the True Ally Award which recognizes men of conscience – allies who use their influence to advocate for safety, equality and respect for women and girls. The Dick Bathrick Activist Award, given to a man who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in the fight to end violence against women, will be presented to actor, author and activist Victor Rivas Rivers. This year’s event will be led by CNN Newsroom anchor Don Lemon as Master of Ceremonies, and Honorary Dinner Co-Chairs George McKerrow Jr., co-founder/CEO of Ted’s Montana Grill (and a 2009 True Ally award recipient), and Richelle Carey, HLN weekday anchor.

"In my work as an anchor, I hear stories about violence against women and girls every day. As a member of the board of Men Stopping Violence, I feel like we are doing really effective work to help put an end to that violence," said Richelle Carey, who also serves as vice president of Men Stopping Violence. "Our awards dinner is a time to reflect on the progress we are making and renew our commitment to building safer communities. Every year I am enlightened, uplifted and have a great time."

The 2011 Men Stopping Violence Annual Awards Dinner will be held on Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Loews Atlanta Hotel in Midtown, 1065 Peachtree St., with a reception and silent auction at 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 7:30 p.m. Individual tickets are $225; patron tickets are $750; and each table for 10 is $2,000. For more information and to purchase tickets, please visit www.menstoppingviolence.org or call (404) 270-9894.

Ann Stallard, CEO of Graphic Communications Corporation, is a respected leader and philanthropist locally, nationally and globally. Formerly the National President of the YWCA, she has been helping to empower women and girls through the organization for many years, even serving on the global board of the World YWCA. She is also an at-large board member of United Way of America and co-founder of Women’s Legacy of United Way (now known as the Women’s Leadership Council). Stallard will be honored for her dedication to supporting and improving the lives of women and girls, and her many years of community service.

An online magazine and social platform, The Good Men Project will be honored for its work to provide a unique forum where men can explore definitions of masculinity that make our communities safer for women and girls. Their articles on relationships, fatherhood, self-care, sex and homophobia contribute valuable insights into issues that need to be addressed in the effort to end violence against women. The Project also gives 25 percent of its profits to organizations that help at-risk boys.

Victor Rivers, a veteran star of more than two dozen films, including Blood In/Blood Out, The Distinguished Gentleman and The Mask of Zorro, uses his status as a celebrity to raise awareness about how we can all prevent abuse. A survivor of domestic violence and child abuse himself, Rivers now travels regularly as an activist, telling his story to legislators, conferences, assemblies, in the media and in his acclaimed memoir, A Private Family Matter. “When I tell people I speak out against domestic violence they ask, ‘Isn’t that a women’s issue?’ Domestic violence is everyone’s issue. Working together, women and men, from all walks of life, can join forces to create safer communities everywhere,” Rivers says on his website.
